Teen Stuttering
Our therapy with teens focuses on helping those who stutter become confident and empowered communicators. Teens take a more hands-on approach to therapy as we partner with them to set their own goals and decide what’s important to work on.
While we continue to target social-emotional, cognitive, and speech strategies, we also talk about how to navigate familiar and new speaking situations, such as interviewing for their first jobs, dating, attending college, and exploring future careers.

What does therapy for teens look like?
Real-life scenarios are the foundation for the activities we work on. Here are some examples:
- learning about speech, stuttering, and it’s impact on communication
- how to manage stuttering in different functional communication situations
- how to be their own best self-advocate for their speaking space
- school activities, like presentations and talking in class with peers and teachers
- interviewing for jobs and college
- college-readiness and how to ask for accommodations and support
